What is a HOODOO?"
and "What kind of music do you play?" are the questions most
often asked of HOODOO JOHNSON. A hoodoo can be either a hex
or a geological construct.
In this case, HOODOO is an ensemble featuring six veteran
musicians including Keizer's own Rockin' Todd McPherson,
with Barry Curtis and Steve Peterson from Seattle, Mike
Mitchell and Scott Bickford from Portland, and Jeff Hale of
Corvallis.
For several years, HOODOO has played area night spots
(frequently Salem's West Side Station), country clubs,
parties, and work-release socials. Sometimes they split up
into smaller units or loan out members to several other
bands including The Wannabeatles and The Bowling Stones.
HOODOO spans an eclectic variety of popular music stylings.
In a typical set, HOODOO might tribute Link Wray, Bob Dylan,
Johnny Burnette, Muddy Waters, Doors, Tom Petty, Jimmy
Buffet, U2, Credence, Bo Diddley, Toots Hibbert, Hank
Williams, Ricky Nelson, The Monkeys, and Helen Reddy.
Whatever the tune, HOODOO's rhythm section locks the best
grooves in the world -- no toe remains untapped. The
abundance of guitars has audiences crying for less! Throw in
some soul-laving harp for texture and relief and total
satisfaction is assured. |
